Climate protection: Alanod is a CO2-neutral company

In 2019 and 2020, Alanod GmbH & Co.KG – manufacturer of functional and decorative thin-film surfaces on strip metals – is going climate-neutral. As such, the company from Ennepetal is making an important contribution to the Paris Agreement and Agenda 2030.

All surface finishing processes inevitably require the use of primary energy, consumables and water. Conserving natural resources has been an integral part of Alanod’s corporate philosophy ever since the company was founded. Over the past few years, the company has optimised its production systems and downstream environmental technology (exhaust air, waste, sewage) with an aim towards energy efficiency and environmental protection, and has been using 100% green electricity for production since 2011.

Alanod had the remaining CO2 emissions at the Ennepetal site and the product-related emissions of the automotive division measured, and will be compensating for these with carbon offsetting certificates in accordance with the UN CER standard in 2019 and 2020. The company supports five international environmental protection projects: three wind power projects in India and China, a hydropower project in three countries in Western Africa (Mali, Mauritania, Senegal) and a solar cooker project in China.

“Protecting the planet is one of the biggest challenges of our times. In light of this, we see it as our duty as a company to do everything we can to help ensure that international climate change targets are met. And that’s why we have to act now, not in a few years’ time,” explains Alanod CEO Oliver Storbeck.

In accordance with its corporate vision, Alanod has joined the Allianz für Entwicklung und Klima (Alliance for Development and Climate) together with other companies, organisations, universities, NGOs, state ministries, cities and individuals. Launched by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), this social alliance has voluntarily committed to ensuring the implementation of Agenda 2030, the global sustainability agenda and the Paris Climate Agreement.
